King Me

Eric Robert Dallimore
January 3 - 21, 2018

Contemporary artist and activist Eric Robert Dallimore’s installation “King Me,” exhibited at Denver Theatre District’s Understudy, is an examination of the current status of the world, reflecting on the aftermath of what the artist describes as “a turbulent year.” “This site-specific installation echoes the highs and lows of 2017 through a sea of rising and falling pillars resting on a pile of rubble and debris, lamenting on the results of a warring nation,” said Dallimore. It incorporates reflections of Americana using traditional woodworking techniques in a contemporary fashion, with performance art using a bow and arrow.

Dallimore will reside in the Understudy space three times a week, adding more pillars to the installation. Viewers are invited to visit Understudy to see the unresolved process take form, and guests are invited to take home small vignettes of the sculpture as Dallimore’s offering of peace and goodwill.

WHEN: January 3 – January 21, open hours 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Hours are subject to change. Visit the Understudy Facebook page for updates and for days Dallimore will be onsite.

WHERE: Denver Theatre District’s Understudy, located at the Colorado Convention Center at 890 C 14th St.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The artist describes King Me in his artist statement: “As we celebrate a new year, I cannot help but address the elephant in the room… last year. Let’s be honest, 2017 was hard. This past year we watched a divisive world collide where everything seemed to be turning upside down. Everything we value as a culture and need as a basic human right has come under attack. Women’s Rights. Immigration. African Americans. Native Americans. The Poor. Healthcare. Taxes. The Internet. Science. Religious Liberty. Freedom of Speech. The Press. National Parks. Sustainability. Water. Forests. Clean Air. Renewable Energy. And on and on it seems to go. A war is being waged, and we are choosing sides. The line has been drawn. As in every war, there will be winners and there will be losers.”

Eric Dallimore has played a valued role over the past 12 years living in Denver working as an artist, arts educator at Think 360 Arts, founder of Leon Gallery, and advisor for the US Global Leadership Coalition. Future projects include a new public art sculpture with residents at Balfour at Riverfront Park through a P.S. You Are Here Grant from Denver Arts & Venues.
