Art Billboards with Access Gallery
The Denver Theatre District proudly partnered with Access Gallery on two art billboards in the district. Access Gallery is an inclusive nonprofit organization that engages the community by opening doors to creative, educational and economic opportunities for people with disabilities to access, experience and benefit from the arts.
In August of 2020, we installed work from artist Nicole titled Dragons and Dinosaurs on a Zoom Meeting. According to Nicole, Zoom is a great way for different creatures to be able to communicate and just be friends. This piece can sometimes be seen above the 16th and Champa LED screen as an "underwrap".
From February 2021 through May 2023 the DTD hosted a triptych on the Champa Street wall of the Denver Performing Arts Complex from artist Louis C. His piece, Crosstown Traffic, features an assortment of original drawings of cars. Visually interpreting cars and trucks has been Louis’ passion for years. His drawings include playful details and bright colors. Louis began creating this collage with original drawings on the back of index cards or pages of a sketchbook. To squeeze as much art as possible into each piece, Louis completely ignores margins and often fills a page edge to edge. Combining his individual drawings into one large collage composition results in a vibrant and active streetscape. The cars almost appear to be moving. This collage represents a small sampling of Louis’ output.
