The Magazine Project
The Magazine Project explores feminine identity through the lens of mass communication and abstraction. Visual artist Sarah Palmeri uses this platform to experiment with various drawing methods that confront idealizations of women in advertising. The installation will include a mural of magazine collages and figurative light sculptures.
The public will be invited to create their own magazine collages during Open Studio Days at Understudy. In early 2018, The Magazine Project will publish the first volume of “Reassembled”, a collection of these collages, reassembled and reprinted in magazine format. This publication examines how the arts and advertising can contribute to addressing social change. A portion of the first volume’s sales will be donated to The Family Tree, a Denver nonprofit providing innovative, life-changing services designed to end child abuse, domestic violence and homelessness.
The dates for Open Studio Days will be February 3rd, 8th, 10th, and 15th from 10 am – 4 pm.
An opening reception will be held on Saturday, February 3rd from 6 – 9 pm.
Understudy is located at the Colorado Convention Center / Theatre District light rail stop near 14th and Stout. Look for the B-Cycle station next to the light rail tracks or Shantell Martin’s art bench.
