Taste Test: Art In Tandem

Various Artists
January 13, 2025 - March 16, 2025

During Understudy's annual dormancy, Taste Test: Art in Tandem serves as our bridge—a collection of works to nourish our creative spirits and sustain the community through the colder months. This year, we present a showcase of six artists, paired together to explore the power of collaboration. Each partnership combines the vision of an experienced Primary Artist with the fresh perspective of a Recommended Secondary Artist, fostering mentorship, experimentation, and mutual inspiration.

The featured artists and collectives of Taste Test" Art In Tandem bring their unique talents to our Window Box Gallery, transforming the space into a dynamic tapestry of creativity:

Box 1: Yazmin Atmore, in collaboration with Kinship Arts Movement (KAM), presenting layered narratives of identity and community through an innovative and collaborative approach.

Box 2: Kaylee Bender, in collaboration with Kinship Arts Movement (KAM), blending multimedia storytelling to reimagine spaces of connection, resilience, and cultural identity.

Box 3: Daphne Sweet, combining delicate textures and dynamic compositions to explore themes of transformation and renewal.

Box 4: Charlie Apple, offering an interplay of augmented reality and digital art to create immersive, animated experiences within the window box.

Box 5: Elizabeth Eaton, crafting intricate, layered installations that evoke depth and movement, inspired by natural and abstract forms.

Box 6: Tom Bond, contributing three-dimensional sculptures that complement Eaton’s work, enhancing the aesthetic dialogue between form and space.

The work on display was conceived and crafted in shared creative spaces, with all artists gathering in Understudy's warehouse throughout December. This process of co-creation echoes the values of camaraderie and growth that inspire this year’s theme.

Join us in celebrating the power of collaboration and the beautiful, unexpected outcomes that arise when we create together. Taste Test '25 will be on view beginning January 13th, 2025, with installations gracing 14th Street and light rail-facing windows, all meant to be viewed from outside of the gallery.

Let this vibrant collection sustain and inspire you through the season, as we eagerly await the arrival of spring and Understudy’s next evolution.
