TREMORS, 3:00min, 2024
August 2024

In TREMORS, Seidel delves into the intersection of artificial intelligence and traditional art forms, exploring the question of which visual associations are preferentially translated into movements by a partially self-trained motion-based AI. This approach bridges the gap between centuries-old painting as well as color mixing techniques and cutting-edge technology. The underlying pictorial compositions and movement patterns are sketched by Seidel, then detailed motion textures are accumulated on the contours, which appear to be entangled in mathematically perfect loops. In the adaptation of TREMORS for Night Lights Denver, several of these painterly loops are joined together, revealing the various approaches to Seidel's 'motion paintings' that he has been exploring for over 20 years.
